SAP Data Archiving
Data Archiving is a service provided by SAP, which helps to remove mass data from the database that the system no longer needs online, but which must still be accessible at a later date as required. The following graphic illustrates the archiving process. Archiving objects are used to write data to archive files, which can be stored on other media.

● Retention management : Manage and enforce all retention policies across the enterprise, destroy data based on applicable policies, use secure ILM-aware storage, set legal holds and run the destruction.
● System decommissioning : Retire redundant systems and legacy systems to reduce total cost of operation and the complexity of IT landscapes, apply retention policies to the extracted and archived data, run reports on the data, and interpret and understand data in archives without the help of the original system.
